Newly Qualified Corporate & Commercial Department Solicitor

Key skills / experience required

  • A minimum of a 2:1 at degree level
  • Good technical knowledge and understanding of both corporate and commercial law (preferably through the study of mergers and acquisitions and commercial law (or similar) at University and/or on the Legal Practice course)
  • Experience of corporate and commercial work, including having undertaken a training seat within a reputable department specialising in these areas
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines, including a willingness to work beyond usual working hours in order to do so (if required)
  • Business development skills

Report line: Partners and solicitors in the Corporate and Commercial department

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm

Holiday entitlement: 25 days per annum

This position is based in the firm’s Ipswich office, however travel to the firm’s other offices will be required regularly

  • A willingness to be involved in the networking and marketing activities of the department, including presentations, briefings and attending both internal and external functions

About the role

Working alongside, and assisting, partners and solicitors within the Corporate and Commercial department. Duties will include:

  • Supporting the Corporate and Commercial department and it’s growth
  • Business development and client care
  • Undertaking both corporate and commercial work, including:


  • Corporate re-organisations, mergers and demergers
  • Assisting with all aspects of share and asset acquisitions and sales, including being responsible or the day-to-day operation of due diligence and disclosure exercises and drafting key
  • transaction documents
  • Shareholder and partnership agreements
  • General commercial agreements
  • Terms and conditions
  • Data protection and GDPR
  • Providing independent legal advice on banking and other documentation
  • General company administration
  • Corporate finance
